Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) appoints its Chief Operating Officer

Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM), an independent body set up under the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015, today announced the appointment of Azmir Zain as the Commission’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective 1 April 2016. Azmir is presently a Director of Investments at Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and brings with him more than 15 years of experience in strategic planning, finance and investments, including for the aviation industry.

As COO, Azmir will formulate and drive the strategic direction of the Commission within the parameters of the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015, and will lead the management team in its industry development and regulatory effort.

“I am confident that Azmir’s experience and expertise will be immensely beneficial to the Commission during these initial years as we strive to build an organization that would be equipped to perform its roles as envisaged by the Act,” said Y. Bhg. Jen. (R) Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Abdullah bin Ahmad, Executive Chairman of MAVCOM.

Azmir holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law from the University of Oxford and an MBA from INSEAD. He is also an Associate Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
