Airlines are required to return the approval letters to the Commission for any air traffic rights that have been expired or revoked.

In addition, the Commission requires that all airlines inform us on the reasons for the surrender / expiry / failure to operate the routes awarded by the Commission within the next seven (7) days from the date of this bulletin.

For Jan-Mar 2019, MAVCOM awarded 53 domestic and international ATRs, with AirAsia receiving the most with 22, followed by Malindo Air with 15. AirAsia failed to operate 10 of its approvals, followed by Malindo Air with 6. Overall, 21 of all prior approvals granted by MAVCOM were not utilised by the airlines within the period of Jan-Mar 2019.

In 2018, MAVCOM awarded 205 domestic and international ATRs, with AirAsia receiving the most with 98 and MASwings the least with 3 approvals. Each ATR awarded has a validity period of 6 months for the airline to commence operations, failing which it is automatically revoked and returned to MAVCOM. In this regard, Malindo Air failed to operate 35 of its approvals, followed by AirAsia X with 11. Overall, 58 of all prior approvals granted by MAVCOM were not utilised by the airlines for the 2018 period.
