AirAsia Group highest recipient of ATR approvals
KUALA LUMPUR, 3 October 2019 – The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) recently released its third quarterly Air Traffic Rights (ATR) update, encapsulating the Commission’s ATR allocations for the Malaysian civil aviation sector from 1 July to 30 September 2019.
During the said period, MAVCOM approved 31 ATR applications, being 100 per cent of all applications received during the quarter. Of the 31 applications, 38.7 per cent were for domestic routes, while 61.3 per cent were for international routes. MAVCOM approved ATR for 12 domestic routes, 10 ATR for routes to ASEAN destinations, five for destinations in China, three for other Asian destinations and Australia, and one for a destination in India.
Of the 31 ATR, 14 were issued for flights originating from KL International Airport (KUL), three from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI), and the remaining 14 from other Malaysian airports.
For the third quarter of 2019, AirAsia Group received the highest number of approvals, amounting to 16 ATR. Malindo Air and Malaysia Airlines Berhad followed with eight and five allocations respectively for the corresponding period.
In addition, 19 ATR that were approved in previous quarters were not utilised by the respective airlines and were subsequently returned to MAVCOM during the third quarter of 2019. The highest number of unused ATR was from AirAsia Group with eight, and Malindo Air with seven. An additional four applications were also voluntarily withdrawn by the airlines in that period.
For the nine-month period of 1 January to 30 September 2019, MAVCOM had approved 100 per cent of the 135 ATR applications it received during that period, represented by 48 domestic ATR, 45 for ASEAN destinations, 21 for destinations in China and the remaining 21 for other Asian destinations and Australia. AirAsia Group received the highest number of ATR allocations for the year to date, with 64 ATR.
