MAVCOM’s Clarification on Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan Fare

19 Jun 2023

The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) wishes to address the issue of the Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan fare of up to RM70,363.00 which has been circulating in social media. MAVCOM had requested AirAsia to provide immediate clarification on the matter.

AirAsia confirmed that the fare shown was a result of an unforeseen system glitch arising from a scheduled system upgrade. The issue is rectified and therefore, consumers will no longer be able to encounter the incorrect fare. AirAsia has also provided its commitment to incorporate additional measures in order to avoid a similar recurrence.

The fare for the aforementioned flight was sold via the airasia Superapp which is an online travel agent (OTA). OTAs do not fall under MAVCOM’s jurisdiction but is under the purview of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia.

Consumers are encouraged to contact AirAsia should they face a similar problem or if they require more information. Please visit our Airline and Airport Contacts page for the airline’s contact details.
