MAVCOM’s Participation in National Consumer Day 2022
On 26 March 2022 and in conjunction with World Consumer Rights Day, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) participated in the National Consumer Day 2022 celebration organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) through its consumer sub-brand, FlySmart. FlySmart is a MAVCOM initiative that drives awareness, educates, and empowers travellers about their air travel rights.
‘Digitalisation of Consumers’ was the chosen theme for this year’s National Consumer Day 2022 celebration. A theme fitting with the consumer’s new normal of using online services and performing online transactions as a big part of their daily lives.
The event was held at Nu Sentral Mall and officiated by the Malaysian Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob. It also witnessed the attendance of the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi who delivered the opening speech. Both Deputy Minister, YB Dato’ Haji Rasol bin Wahid and Secretary General of KPDNHEP, YBhg. Datuk Seri Haji Hasnol Zam Zam bin Haji Ahmad also graced the event. MAVCOM was represented by the Chief Operating Officer, YM Raja Azmi bin Raja Nazuddin and Director of Consumer Affairs, Madam Pushpalatha Subramaniam
During the full-day event, the FlySmart team educated consumers on their air travel rights and empowered them to exercise their rights before, during and after their flights. Meanwhile, the FlySmart team were also preparing consumers for Malaysia’s border reopening on 1 April 2022 by introducing the FlySmart Travel Advisory guide, which is available on the FlySmart website and mobile application. The FlySmart Travel Advisory guide provides up-to-date information on air travel rules and restrictions including border restrictions, COVID-19 tests, and vaccination requirements from all over the world. Owing to the fluidity of the travel regulations around the world, it is crucial for consumers to be aware of the latest air travel requirements before they travel.
